Facebook Fan Page Design

With more than 900 million active users worldwide, Facebook is by far the most used social network on the web. The social media platform has the highest penetration in North America, Middle East, Africa, Latin America, Europe and Asia-Pacific, respectively. Launched in 2004, Facebook is the platform that has revolutionized the way people communicate with each other and the method in which companies market their brands. The introduction of "Facebook Fan Pages" and "Timelines" has given companies greater creative control in social media marketing. Facebook business pages help companies build closer relationships with their customers and target niche audiences. Follow these instructions to set up your company Fan Page.

How to Create a Facebook Fan Page
First, choose Create a Page on Facebook and indicate which of the six categories your organization falls in:

  • Local Business or Place
  • Company, Organization or Institution
  • Brand or Product
  • Artist, Band or Public Figure
  • Entertainment
  • Cause or Community

Next, choose a specific category in the menu, or give your company name. Agree to the Facebook terms and get started. You will be asked to upload a profile picture. The displayed size of your profile picture is 125 x 125 pixels, but the minimum width for an uploaded profile image is 180 pixels. Organizations generally use a company logo or branded image as the profile picture since it will be displayed next to status updates, comments and messages.

To give context, provide some basic information about your company in the "About" section, including your website, contact information, company biography, Twitter page, blog and any other information that would be helpful to your client base and prospective customers.

Unique Facebook URL
Choosing your Facebook web address is a vital step in the process of creating your Fan Page. The unique web address will make it easier for people to find your page and help improve your search engine optimization. Be sure to choose a name that is easy to remember and a good identifier for your organization. The page will need to reach 30 followers before you will be able to claim the name.

Cover Photo
The most obvious place to brand your company page is the cover photo on your Timeline design. Facebook allows an image (852 x 315 pixels) to be placed prominently on the top of each Fan Page. Take advantage of this opportunity to include a clearly branded image that helps the viewer to understand your company at first glance. The most effective cover photos entertain, inspire, teach or surprise audiences. Our advice to companies is to create a cover photo strategy that includes several different image options that can be changed regularly.

Add a Timeline cover photo to your fan page by clicking on the "Add a Cover" button on the top right-hand side of the page. Select the image you want to upload. Super-imposed on your image you will see "Drag to Reposition Cover." Click and drag the image into position, then click "Save Changes."

Once you complete the initial set-up, it's time to invite your Facebook friends and your email contacts to "Like" your new Fan Page. Now you are ready to start posting updates.
