The app, entitled Buy Your Friend a Beer, has proved to be a rather controversial move for the casual dining chain, as some applaud the company for its forward-thinking marketing practices, while others condemn it for promoting alcohol sales to youth, according to a USA Today article. Nick Shepherd, president of Friday’s parent company Carlson Restaurants, was quoted as saying that although the restaurant cannot ensure that every person who purchases the e-gift card is 21, “We can make sure that anyone who redeems it is 21.”
Friday’s rolled out their campaign just in time for Father’s Day, but the app will be available for purchase after the holiday as well. Simply “like” Friday’s on their Facebook fan page, then place your order on the custom tab. You may buy up to five beer e-coupons per friend, each for $5. The gift card can also be used to buy food and other non-alcoholic drinks. After purchasing, you can either download and print the e-certificates or leave them on your smartphone to be redeemed at the restaurant.
